Shoreline Management and Stabilization Using Vegetation
This one-day intensive workshop will provide Puget Sound Marine shoreline planners with the tools and information to effectively review and evaluate shoreline impact mitigation proposals using native vegetation. Typical problems will be identified and solutions discussed, incorporating many real-world examples. You will gain a working knowledge of topics such as the role of vegetation in stabilizing slopes and reducing erosion, how to quickly evaluate slope stability using vegetational field indicators, how upland clearing or view pruning may adversely effect the shore, how low-impact development practices can reduce site impacts, how to mitigate unavoidable impacts using an integrated biostructural approach, and much more. The purpose of the class is to provide you with ways to help administer shoreline permits and condition mitigation measures more effectively. The afternoon session will be conducted in the field, so dress appropriately.
Lunch is provided.
