Karen Guglielmone is a contract trainer with the NOAA Coastal Services Center, where she conducts training on How to Conduct Training Needs Assessments, Designing and Conducting Collaborative Processes, and Public Issues and Conflict Management. She is also a Project Manager in the Engineering Group of the Town of Telluride Public Works Department in Telluride, Colorado. In this role, she is responsible for projects including wastewater treatment plant expansion, river restoration, development and implementation of the Town’s runoff management plan, and wetland creation and restoration. Public outreach and education, as well as educating Town staff, about environmental concerns and better approaches are also an important part of her job. Ms. Guglielmone received her M.S. in Environmental Systems Engineering from Clemson University, and holds a B.S. in Agricultural and Biological Engineering from Cornell University. She also has received extensive training in Mediation and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Data Management. As a Senior Engineer with Tetra Tech, Inc., and an Engineer with Brown and Caldwell, Karen has worked exclusively on watershed management issues. Highlights have included working collaboratively with watershed groups to develop effective management plans; developing total maximum daily loads (TMDLs); establishing a pollutant trading program; providing the initial analysis for establishing sediment criteria to protect water bodies; and working with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Watershed Management Branch to develop program and technical guidance. She has also worked as a Field Hydrologist and Environmental Engineer.
